Madam Ernestina Ama Mensah-Gborbleshie was born on 26th May 1974 to Mr. Seth Kwadzo Mensah-Gborbleshie of Yorve in the Volta Region, and Oheneba Margaret Agyapongmaa Ampofo of Kwahu-Obomin in the Eastern Region. Both parents are of blessed memory.
She was raised in a home grounded in discipline, respect, and strong family values — principles that shaped her character and guided her throughout her life.
Education
Ernestina began her formal education in 1980 at Pataase Experimental School. When her father was transferred to the Bono Region in his capacity as a Quality Officer with the Produce Buying Company, she continued her studies at Rapid Preparatory School in Sunyani.
She later attended Boahenkokor Middle School, also in Sunyani, where she completed her Middle School Certificate Examination in 1993. Her years in school were marked by diligence, humility, and a quiet determination to succeed.
Career & Working Life
Affectionately known as "Baby" by family, friends, and clients, Ernestina had a natural flair for fashion, beauty, and cosmetology. Recognising her passion and talent, her uncle, Oheneba Kwaku Asiedu, invited her to Accra and supported her in undergoing professional training in cosmetology and hairdressing.
Upon completing her training, she practised her trade in Sunyani and later in Accra, where she distinguished herself through hard work, creativity, and exceptional customer care. With dedication and perseverance, she established her first salon using the foyer of the family house — gradually building a strong and loyal clientele through sheer determination and excellence.
In 1994, she relocated permanently to Accra, where she continued her work at Adabraka, further expanding her reputation and her circle of devoted clients within a remarkably short period.
Family Life
While in Accra, Ernestina met Mr. Emmanuel Tabiri Mensah (known affectionately as Nkomo), with whom she was blessed with her only child, Dr. Liza Tabiri Mensah — whom she loved dearly and nurtured with devotion, sacrifice, and immense pride.
She was a caring and selfless mother, whose life revolved around the wellbeing and success of her child and family.
Character & Faith
Baby was known to be cheerful, loving, peace-loving, and hospitable, with a warm sense of humour that endeared her to many. She related well with people from all walks of life and was always ready to offer a helping hand.
Above all, she was a God-fearing woman — committed to the work of God, devoted to her family, and faithful in all she did. Her life reflected humility, perseverance, and quiet strength.
Though Madam Ernestina Ama Mensah-Gborbleshie has departed this earthly life, her legacy of love, hard work, faith, and kindness lives on. She leaves behind cherished memories that will forever be treasured by her family, friends, and all who were privileged to know her.
